Marita Jacob is Professor of Sociology at University of Cologne, Germany. She studied social sciences, economics and mathematics in Gie├čen, London and Berlin, and obtained her Ph.D. in sociology while working at the Max-Planck-Institute for Human Development. From 2013 to 2017 she was part of the AQMeN Phase II Research Team on "Education and social stratification". Her main research interests are social inequality in education and the labour market.

Her publications deal with e.g. the influence of social origin on educational decisions and educational trajectories, and the education-fertility nexus. In addition, Marita Jacob has worked on labour market topics such as the transition from school-to-work and unemployment
