Brian P. An is Associate Professor of Educational Policy and Leadership Studies at the University of Iowa. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and a B.A. from the University of Washington. Broadly, his research focuses on the sociology of education, educational stratification, and college student success. Particularly, he focuses on the role of dual enrollment on college outcomes.
He also considers family influences on students’ transition from high school to college. His work has appeared in academic journals such as Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, Social Science Research, Journal of Higher Education, Research in Higher Education, Review of Higher Education, Higher Education, and Journal of College Student Development. He has recently served on the editorial board of Sociology of Education and Teachers College Record. He has also served as Program Co-Chair of Sociology of Education for the American Sociological Association.
